Best 2.1 Speakers?

Hello everyone,

First post here so do excuse if this is in the wrong section.

Basically, I blew out my Logitech Z4's on New Years Eve due to having the speakers (the sub, especially) at full volume for a few hours which means that I am now back in the Market for speakers. I've realised that I want loud and clarity out of them, enough power for house parties. What do you all recommend I should buy?

Thanks in advance,

Justin122

P.S: Sorry if this is poorly written, it's 1:15AM here and I'm shattered.

Hi Justin,

Sounds like a nightmare mate! > http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Logitech-Z-2300-2-1-Speaker-System-200-watts-RMS-/280599057589?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopComponents_RL&hash=item415501d4b5

Had the old version of these about 6 years ago ^ brilliant for what you need imo.

Cheers!

Sounds good, but I've heard that the bass is overpowering and that the mids are non-existent. Is this true?

Thanks,

Look at the frequency response graph and judge for yourself:

In other words, yes.

This same topic is covered here:

My basic recommendation is bookshelf speakers (either passive or active) plus a standalone active subwoofer - Parts Express is a good place to start, especially for subs.

The logitech z2300 doesn'ts sound very good, look at the edifier s330, s530 , s730 or the creative t3.

You're gonna need a proper bookshelves+subwoofer to reach sufficient SPL for a house party. Depending on the size of the room that they will be in, floorstanding speakers may even be preferable. Forget about PC Multimedia Speakers, they are meant to be used nearfield at low to moderate volume and they sound pretty bad too.

Knowing your budget would definitely help us recommend you some speakers.

definitely post a budget!!

also if you are willing to buy used, let us know your local craigslist area and we can scope out any bargains.

Yeah, Craigslist is really the way to go - especially for party speakers.

Hi everyone,

Sorry about not being able to reply recently - things I needed to sort out.

My budget is around the £200 mark overall.

Thanks for all your help.

Im sure people on here recommending logitech speakers obviously haven't experimented very well with speaker setups.

No offense intended.

I just don't want you to be convinced that such things offers "stellar or near-stellar" performance.

Regarding a 2.1 system.

Best performance vs price will involve not a whole buy but purchasing monitors/bookshelf speakers and hooking them up to a sub.

You can go the expensive route and purchase Paradigms or even Cambridges or look for vintage high performing monitors.

It doesn't look like you're willing to spend too much money so I won't get into the details and the more expensive setups.

Yup, I'm new too

For party animals with £200 I think the Corsair SP2500 (£175 - £220) is the way to go. That one will give you 220 Watts RMS all night.

For slightly less how about the Logitech Z630 (£130 - £150) - I'm not such a fan of the sound but there's plenty of power there.

Since u in UK hit Gumtree for a used beefy stereo amp and floor standers that go fairly low if u could afford it
