I have narrowed down my Solid State amp search.....which do you think I should go with?

I've narrowed down my SS amp choice to one of 2 unless someone could build me a Beta 22 with a silver chasis.

I've narrowed it down to the Phonitor or the Luxman P1U

Which is the better amp, I have heard neither.

I've not heard the phonitor but the P1u was pretty far off the mark from the P1. I thought the P1 was about the best SS amp I've heard but the P1u left a bit to be desired IMHO

Apples and oranges, David.  I have both.  Ballpark, the Luxman mimics classic tube sound, warm and rounded.  The Phonitor is studio-clean and impartial.  The Phonitor has fascinating and flexible crossfeed capability.  Both are as good as it gets in their separate categories.

Happy to lend both for audition, if you want to make the trip to Manhattan.

How about b22 or dynahi :p

So would the Phonitor be a better compliment to my tube amps than the P1U?

I would think so.

If it were me and my money, the P1 is my pick.  I haven't heard either one, but thats just what I would want.

What is the difference between the P1 and P1u?

I have heard both and wasnt impresses by either. I think the beta22 is better than both. Another ss option would be the RP010-B MkII. I havent heard it though so I am not recommending it off of my own listening.

The u is the more recent edition. I don't know what the differences specifically are, other than the u version only has two jacks I think, the P1 has three jacks.

Does anyone prefer the P1U over the Beta 22?

to my ears, with high impedance cans, the phonitor is far better than the p1u.  it reminds me a lot of a push-pull tube amp, with lots of control.  however it does have a relatively high output impedance, so it may not be a good match for, say, Grados.  with these lower impedance cans, I didnt like either of these amplifiers.

the b22 is a fantastic amp, but do not shy away from the dynamid.  it is still a force to be reckoned with, despite the fact that it is an older design, with lots of power and a quick, agile feel.

aren't both beta22 and rp010b much much more expensive than phonitor or p1u?  sound much much better though.  i heard phonitor many times and never understand phonitor though, so....

The beta22 varies depending on configuration and parts. The b22 is equal or less than the spl phonitor (new). The rp010b is about 3x the price.

So the Phonitor is better than the B22 to you?
