Best DAC+amp for 200 dollars?

Thread Starter

I would like to buy a dac/amp combo for my Sennheiser HD555 cans. Only USB input is welcome, as I have neither coaxial nor optical output on my PC. My personal choice would be HiFiMan EF2, but I appreciate any other options.

The EF2 is well regarded.  Skylab has reviewed the Musical Paradise MP-302 which he quite liked.  It may stretch your budget, but you may want to check out offerings from AudioGD.

Ehh, Audinst HUD MX1?

Audinst HUD-mx1 sounds like it would fit your requirements unless you want tubes. My HD535 (somewhat similar to HD555) and DT770 pro 250's sound sound pretty good when connected to the integrated amp.

How does the EF2 compare to a Maverick D1? I currently have a used D1, but I will have to send it back to the seller because I am having some issues with it. The optical and USB ports are loose causing loss of signal and there is quite a bit of clipping from the amp. I am wondering if I should get another Maverick or something different, such as the Hifiman EF2.
