Speaker power amp for headphones

I have a small power amp (2 x 10w) I plan to use for headphones - mp3/CD player to input, headphones to output. An output 400 ohms series resistor apparently affects the sound negatively (damping factor). Is there a better way to protect the headphones from being overpowered, or can I connect them directly to the speaker outputs?

What Headphones?  I know the Luxman SQ-N100 adds a 470 ohm resistor for the headphone output, so I would think the 400s would be no problem.

Plenty of headphones... but among them HP50, K340, MDR-F1, DT880 (12-600 ohm). Input level would be adjusted from the sources, but accidents do happen. Sudden disconnections and main spikes could prove to be a problem as well.

A 400/470 ohm resistor would mean an impedance mismatchto for the 12 ohm Sony, or,  without it, with the 600 ohm Beyers. The amp is probably designed to power speakers in the 4-16 ohm region.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Sorry buts as far as my knowledge extends in the speaker amp world.  And I only knew that from the 6moons review.

Try it and see.  I'm sure all will be well without resistors.  I have run headphones like that for years and years, and never blown one up.  A 10wpc amp is ideal, provided the native S/N ratio is OK.
