Replacement pads for Koss DJ 100

Thread Starter

I've read rumors that the ATH-M30, Pearstone Velour, and Sony V6 pads will fit the Koss DJ 100.

Do they?

If so, how comfy are they compared to the stock/default pads? I'm using the DJ 100 right now as I'm typing this and my ears are hurting more and more by the minute. It becomes unbearable at times, but I loves these headphones.

If they reduce sound quality by a little, I wouldn't mind. If any of the pads mingle with the bass, please let me know! I feel like the bass is very lacking in these (unamped).

Thanks!

The Pearstone Velour pads fit, but they will make your ears hot after a few hours. Most pads that fit the DJ100 need to be stretched slightly. The pads will be oval, but will still fit. They just look a bit goofy and look as if it would mess with the sound quality, but it doesn't.

The Shure SRH-240 pads also fit, but it makes them a bit too bright and fatiguing somehow. These offer the best isolation.

I'd suggest the Audio Technica M30 pads. They're very comfortable and keep my ears cool. They may not be circumaural for everyone, but for me they are. These are the pads I prefer. The MDR-V6 pads should also work.

With different pads I've found the bass improves due to a better seal for many people.

EDIT: BTW the bass will definitely get better when amped. Some people are OK with the sound unamped, but I think they're best amped.

For those who can't find any replacement pads and hates how small the DJ 100's pad is, you can stuff  acoustic foam right under the pads. This elevates the earpads, which then full seals around your ear without any ear pain. Most think that the SQ will be altered, but it sounds the same to me.

I use the MDR-V6 pads with mine and they're a near perfect fit and it doesn't effect the sound as much as the M30 pads. The M30 pads seem to slightly make them a bit more bass heavy. The M30 pads are actually a little smaller than the V6 pads.

The V6 pads are a VERY tight fit and it takes some effort to get the plastic to fit in the grooves.

I got my pads from Amazon for around $8.16 for each pad. The Pearstone pads are $20 a pair I believe and they also fit. The MDR-V6 pads are actually more comfortable than the velour Pearstone pads.

On the DJ100 the MDR-V6 pads are circumaural due to stretching. The MDR-V6 pads on the actual V6 headphone are mostly supra-aural.

The Shure SRH-240 pads seems to decrease the bass and make the headphone quite a lot brighter to my ears. Not sure why. I don't think the 240 pads can be purchased separately, but they do offer the best isolation. The pleather is a bit hard though and not that comfortable.

Now if only I could find some Beyer-like velour pads!

how big are the koss earpards?

if it is the same as the denon hp700 we might found a common solution

btw arent the V6 ovals and the dj100 circles?

Yes, they are. I shouldn't have said they're a perfect fit, but they do fit very securely. The V6 pads on the DJ100 do look a bit awkward, but I'm just happy they work so well and I don't have to use the default DJ100 pads. Luckily the V6 pads on the DJ100 don't cover up any of the holes or change the sound much. I think the DJ100 is now one of the most comfortable headphones I have.

(BTW there is another thread here somewhere where someone else posted pictures of the V6 pads on the DJ100)

There's a Pioneer DJ headphone out there that looks like it's nice leather pads might fit on the DJ100, but my guess is that the pads are hard to find and cost a fortune. As it is right now I'm perfectly happy with the V6 pads though.

Hopefully Koss updates the pads on the DJ100. They're not horrible, but for many the tips of your ears might press against the pad. For me it wasn't a major problem, but I still preferred to have new pads to get a better seal. I think for some the DJ100 pads degrade the bass for some due to a poor seal.

then the hp700 and  dj100 must be different size because i just tried the v6 pads on my hp700 and the fit is loose. they get better in comfort tho, but the lads might even fall from the headphone.

Yeah, the V6 Pads do look slightly awkward on the Koss DJ100, but it's perfectly fine. The ovals are a bit slimmer on one side than the circle pads, which streches the V6 pads just very little. I found the stock ear pads pushing a lot on my ears, especially because I have glasses. It was irritating and occasionally painful. Otherwise, they're a great set of headphones!
