Where to splice 4th ground wire for IPOD LOD Line out to RCA Connectors?

On the IPOD connector side of things one has ground, left and right signal out.  When creating a line out cable to RCA, you obvisouly need four signal wires on the RCA connector side of things.

More out of curosity than anything, can anyone think of pros / cons of the following options:

1. Run 3 wires from the connector until the y spilt at to the RCA connectors and splice the 4th wire in there

2. Carefully run 2 ground wires right from the ground pin(s) at the IPOD connector, one to each RCA plug.

I don't think I would be able to hear a difference, but option 1 would be a little easier to make I think.

Option 1 is surely easier but I'd go with option 2. Having a solder joint in the middle of the cable is not a good idea for me.
