$150 IEMs? - Page 3

I have very small ear canals (I typically opt for small and extra small tips for my IEMs) and I too was worried about the fit of the Triple fi 10 but upon the first insertion, they fit me perfectly with the small single flange eartips. They fit securely and with a minimum of discomfort over longer listening periods and while you will look a bit silly wearing them, they sound good enough to be worth it.

for $140-150 these are an amazing deal

It's not so much the size of your ear canal but rather the rest of your ear. When I had the TF10 and tried them my tragus would hurt quite a bit after taking them out due to that bulge in the TF10. With the flip mod it was better but I could never get a proper seal regardless of tips as they would keep coming out.

hello everyone, newbie here. i would really appreciate all your comments and suggestions right now i am confused on what IEM to buy $150-200. I am planning to sell my monster diddy beats, i couldn’t appreciate it and really got disappointed when I listened to another genre (Alternative). I was really disappointed when I couldn’t hear the mid-range when I listened to ( When you  look me in the eyes 1st version by: Jonas brothers) I was so shocked to the intro I couldn’t hear the mid-range electric guitar very well and can’t even understand it, in short it was mudded (though I know in the reviews already diddy beats lacking in Mids). So I decided to buy another pair of IEMs, I am also a bass lover and it was the best but I do also listen to alternatives but the sound’s not really there and couldn’t appreciate it. I previously owned Shure SCL2-CL at first I was disappointed by it because the bass was not there even though it indicates lows 3 highs 2 ..  I couldn’t feel it but I really love its clarity and detail of the song, the mids were so good alternatives really shine on this IEM but when I listened to some pop and R&B sometimes the bass gets really mudded so I bought the diddy beats. Maybe you can recommend something that has good bass IEM that is not for me to feel it not lacking, with terrific mids and appreciable highs. So It would be balanced in R&B and alternatives.

( I really liked my Shure SCL2-CL, but the bass was just not there and muddy with R&B, POP)

would really appreciate it guys. I will use it on my iphone 4 as well. With control talk or without would be fine as long as the sound quality is very good and not lacking.

Thank you

Based on your experience, would you recommend for others to at least try the TF10's? And are there really any other IEMs that can compete with them for price? As I've mentioned before I did take a look at the Audeo PFE's and such but I was always brought back to the TF10s or DBA-02's (Which are out of stock everywhere at the moment). And I must say, I'm still worried about the large housing; I feel that if the phones looked weird I wouldn't wear them often enough to justify the price even if they sounded great.

It depends on the price as well as your preference. Anything around $150-$200 to consider but regardless of price I would not pick one up for my preferences but I can see people liking them. They have a V shaped signature with recessed midrange. The bass is high with decent treble and the mids are not as good. Due to the  recessed midrange they have the impression of more bass than they actually do which did not sit with me too well. If you want anything analytical or neutral then look elsewhere. If you want a somewhat fun but V shaped in a BA form then the TF10 could be something to consider.

If I were to own a TF10 again the first thing I would do is to get a replacement cable. The cable it comes with while is soft and flexible is thin and does not give one much confidence although I never had an issue with them but they are the most babied cable I've ever used. I would look into either modifying a Westone ES cable (although it also means I could never go back to a UE cable pin since the ES is a bit thicker) or get the Jaben cable which is similar to the ES cable but modified for the TF10.

As for better option it does depend on your preferences. Just because something is "better" does not mean you should buy it if it does not suit your preferences. For example the IE8 sound is not for me. If I was in the market for an earphone and the IE8 went on sale for say $100 I would not get it since it doesn't suit me.

Alright, thanks for your honesty. I'm still not exactly sure on what I'll end up getting but you've helped point me in the right direction. I definitely want something analytical and if the TF10's can't provide that then I might just end up going with the PFE's or maybe the bass enhanced version. thanks again!

For me the TF10 are not an option even at $90.  I had no fit or seal issues.  Just didn't care for the sound myself.  YMMV.

Seconded.  While Monster doesn't have the best rep around her, the Turbine line has received very high praise on these forums.  I am not sure I would pay $150 for them, but if you can score them for under $100 then I can't think of a better option at that price range.  The $40 refurbs are a good option - I paid just under $60 for them on some Amazon.com special.
