Budget DAC? (Please advise!)

Thread Starter

I would like a simple USB-to-phono DAC to connect my media pc to my stereo amplifier.

There seem to be a few budget options:

Musiland Monitor 01
Mini TDA1543 DIR9001
AUNE PCM2707

Any recommendations or opinions on these?

Advice would be much appreciated!

This is really the wrong area to ask that question.

You should move it to the "Computer Audio" section.

Pipps:

I'm using an HRT Music Streamer II and I love it. Cost = $149.

Here is the system:

Dell 640 GB laptop; Monster Cable USB cable; HRT Music Streamer II; Audioquest Black Mamba II interconnect; PS Audio GCHA amp; Beyerdynamic DT 990/600 ohm and Sennheiser 580 cans; PS Audio PerfectWave AC-3 power cable (for the amp); Monster Cable power strip.

Lastly, please follow Avro_Arrow's advice re: where to post your query: you will get more responses that way.

Good listening.....

Thanks for the suggestion, but the HRT is clearly out of my budget.

Can anyone suggest a good DAC for below £50?

Check the for sale section of the forum. The uDAC is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that's worth spending money on in your price range.

Thank you for a brilliant recommendation! The Turtle Beach Micro II looks perfect for my simple needs.

I am going to buy one right away. Thank you!

The Nuforce UDAC II is well worth a look if you haven't already made your purchase.

I have already pulled the trigger, and the Nuforce seems to be more than four times the price of the Turtle Beach Amigo II.

Thanks anyway. :)

I received the Turtle Beach USB Amigo II today and it's working brilliantly.

It took my a few minutes to get it to work with XBMC (Live) on a Zotac Zbox ND02.

I only found success once my Audio Output settings were configured as follows:
Audio Output: Optical/Coax

Speaker configuration: 2.0

Boost volume level on downmix: yes

Dolby digital ac3 capable receiver: no

DTS capable receiver: no

Audio output device: USB sound device iec958

Passthrough output device: USB sound device iec958.
Hope this helps somebody one day.
