Mac or PC guide.

Thread Starter

This is going to be my first useful thread and hopefully will help people who are going to purchase a new computer. Im going to warn you that Im not a native english speaker so my english is not going to be the best but it should be readable. Feel free to add anything you know or ask me any question. I'll try my best to answer the questions you have.

Ok, so let me start off by saying that Macs are better as a laptop. Why? Unless you're a serious gamer or a video editor you'll probably wont care what hardware is in your laptop. And even if you do you need to spend at least several thousand $$$ to get a laptop that can come close to a custom build gaming or workstation Desktop PC that cost less than 1k. So if you have the money you should probably go with a mac as it is very user friendly and has a very good customer service. Another benefit for getting a mac is that you can repair almost everything you break. There are repair services for macs all over the internet and there are a lot of spare parts that you can get to repair you're broken mac like a trackpad or a loose keyboard, for instance.  So, if you're going to get a laptop try to save a couple more $$$ and spend it on a macbook or a macbook pro. There are a few exceptions though, for example if you're very tight on budget, you could probably get a laptop that cost around 400-500$ that will perform as good as a 999$ macbook but I reccomend most user to go with a mac laptop.

Now, for a desktop, I reccomend most user to get a Window based PC cause it can benefits both Gamers and the average consumer. If you're into gaming, you can build a killer rig that can walk all over a 5k$ mac pro for under 1k$. Also, you can customize almost every part of a PC. For example, if you want to run many application at once, you can build a pc with a 6 amd core pc with lots of ram for a very good price. Or you can turn your PC into a gaming beast by getting an i7 cpu with a high end graphics card that will beat most PC for less than 2k. If not, you can buy a premade pc that can do everything a 2000 $$$ Imac can do for about 600-700$.

So this conclude my guide for people who are going to get a new computer/laptop and I hope this will help some people. Feel free to post any comments or questions below and thanks for reading! smile.gif

I beg to differ, for me overall whether its a laptop or desktop I have to go with Windows, Its a logical option and cheap as for parts highly customizable and changeable. Even if its a laptop you don't need to bring it to a genius, just in order to upgrade the ram and with Windows almost 95% software are compatible.

But I have to agree with you that Mac laptop are quite well built (except for the air) thats because of the high end materials they use reason for having hellbent prices, I used to worked as a disassembler for Ontario Goverment, and Macbook are the ones that take a lot of time to thinker even the set of screws are different, while others are made of plastic Macs has overall aluminum and really weird set of wirings. parts, screws, ribbon etc etc. only laptop I think could do the same on durability is Lenovo's Thinkpad

I also have a Macmini set up for home theater even have the Ipad as my toy, even used Mac/software for work. but I still prefer Widows on my Desktop and Linux for my Server/Laptop wink_face.gif

i have to disagree with you on the "macs are easy to repair" part. the screen on my macbook broke a few weeks ago and it costs $800 to repair it. that's what the folks at the apple store told me. i love my macbook but that is about half of what it costed me. other than that, this is probable the best purchase i've ever made in my entire life. it's that good.

I have to agree with the original poster. Apple builds superior laptops in their Macbook Air, Macbook, and especially their Macbook Pro product portfolio than Windows 7 counterparts. Apple OS X Snow Leopard is a superior operating system compared to Microsoft Windows 7 as a whole. The only thing that is not true is that Macintosh computers are easy to repair: this is not the case. They use some proprietary parts and assembly techniques to build their laptops and it requires that you take it to an authorized Apple store to their Genius center for repairs and upgrades.

PCs have and always will be more powerful and they can be customized to the nth degree to meet the demands of almost any computer user worldwide. This is the most impressive aspect about PCs that run Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, BSD, or Solaris. The bad thing about PCs is their uneven reliability, costs, and obsolescence in a few short years as software applications get more sophisticated and hardware gets to be more powerful and less expensive.

For me, Microsoft Windows, ASUS PCs, Intel CPUs, and nVIDIA GPUs are the way to go for high performance PCs at a relatively affordable price with robust reliability and good customer support.
