Massive attack - Favorite album?

I have long thought Mezzanine to be their best album. Now with increased listening of Heligoland I'm completely torn and can't decide between the two. Your opinions? Which do you think is their best album?

That's a tough one. I'm torn between the two. I like them both in different ways.

Mezzanine is miles ahead of Heligoland imo. It's a true album, heligoland is a collection of songs.

"A collection of songs" could just as easily describe Blue Lines, Protection, or 100th Window, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there.

Mezzanine is tops for me followed by Heligoland. I was really put off by Heligoland at first but now I think it's a great album. It reminded me of Protection, which is my next favorite.

Heligoland = Big Snore.

Heligoland lacks synergy between the songs, the collective is just as good as good as the individual songs instead of better.

The same thing happened to me. I bought it and wasn't impressed. But then I saw them in concert when they went on tour and it just clicked.

100th Window would be my choice, however unpopular.  It flows well from go to whoah.  The only song I don't like is Prayer for England.

Has to be Blue Lines as it had such a profound influence on what music i purchased and listened to for years to come.

Mezzanine is a wonderful album, as your equipment gets better you hear more layers of detail. Neil Davidge produced the album superbly.

Heligoland is a fine album also and is just slightly behind Mezzanine in my books.

For anyone interested Massive Attack did the soundtrack to a film called Danny The Dog.

Gotta put my vote for Mezzanine; I can't quite put my on finger on why, but it is one of the only albums I can think of that sounds truly timeless, as in if you were to play it for someone who never heard of the band, they wouldn't be able to guess what year it was from (not to mention that the album is eargasmic on higher-end 'phones).

Blue Lines and Protection are definitely still in my regular rotation though, and the evolution and consistency across all 3 albums is stunning. 100th Window started out great but lost steam for me about halfway through, Heligoland just straight up bores me

1. Mezzanine

2. No Protection

3. Blue Lines

4. Protection

5. Heligoland

6. 100th Window

7. Danny the Dog OST

This is so true. When I bothered to look up the year I was very surprised.

For the record, Small Time Shot Away is my favorite MA song

Mezzanine is their best as far as i'm concerned, I did like their first one though (and the others too come to that)
