Ways To Shorten Sennheiser HD 598 cable?

the cable is way too long. 10 feet is just insane.

Yess it fine when im sitting across the tv watching a movie but i wont be using these all the time for movies on my tv.

So I was thinking of cutting it to 4-5 feet.

any way to do this. Im no soldering expert also

Buy a new plug end, cut the cable to desired length, install new plug end. Voila.

Yeah...or at that point if you desired you could downsize it to the 3.5mm.

yeah it was default 6.3 and came with 3.5mm..

will  the sound quality be worsened if i do this?

From what I read there should be no difference. If you replace it with a threaded 3.5mm plug you can get a screw on 6.3mm adapter like the ones that come with the Beyerdynamic headphones (others too I'm sure) and that makes a very sturdy way to switch over to the larger plug if you ever need to.

Supposedly, it can sound better because the signal has less wire to degrade in. But I call likely bs. And don't wanna start a flame war.

You can buy some relatively cheap cable making supplies.  You should start by making yourself a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male patch cable.  Once you get one of those working it will be a piece of cake to put a new plug on your headphone cable.  

 

Need:

 

Soldering Iron

solder

Strippers

Side Cutters

3.5mm male plugs

Some fairly cheap cable(like canare mini quad)

and a multi meter.  

 

If you feel comfortable soldering you can porbably skip making a patch cable, but it's good practice, and if you can build one then a headphone cable is no problem.  Just gives a little more secure feeling cutting of the cable on your headphones.  You could probably buy this stuff for under $100 easily.

Hi, does anyone here know how/where I can buy a 3 feet or so cable 2.5mm to 3.5mm that would work with (i.e. not destroy or degenerate the headphones in any way) the Sennheiser 598s?

The important bit is the twist locking side that goes into the 598s.  If its proprietary, that side would be hard to make yourself.

Should I then buy a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord and a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter. Is there a specific kind of 2.5mm I should buy so that it would lock in and have the same internal structure so as not to ruin the headphones? How would I know what to buy (Would I have to go to look at a specialty shop online or just visit an audio store?)?
