What was your 1st Portable Music Player? (Please read rules) - Page 5

Like a few here I had the Sony TPS-L2.

I can't remember what it cost but I was the only person at college at the time with one (the only time I have been a trend setter in my lifeblink.gif) I do remember it was very expensive!

Here is an image (not mine)

I also had the first portable CD player from sony when it came out, likewise the first mini disc player from them!

Samsung YP-T5H

- took a single AAA battery
- can change LCD backlight colors

- 128 MB storage

- probably the smallest mp3 player at that time

- used it for 3-4 years extensively and is now retired at home somewhere ksc75smile.gif

Hehe, I remember when both of those things were out-of-this-world high-tech. I remember when I got my first own computer in early 90's and it had 4 gigs of HDD space. The entire town went into an uproar because it was such ridiculous alien-class technology.

Whoah. I still remember my first stereo. Ex-uncle-in-law got me one of those cheapie 8-track/phono combo things that were all the rage until the mid-80's. Speakers that connect with RCAs FTW!

But first portable? Something like this, purchased off one of those fly-by-night cable auction/liquidation sale shows. Anyone remember those? They had (what I now think was) a fake 'live-auction' with people bidding, etc. They'd trot out stereos, speakers, etc, put 'em up on the auctioneer's podium and put a turd-polish on like you've never seen. I *wish* I had video. Sadly, we didn't get a VCR 'till years later and I never would've been permitted to waste an expensive tape on something like that.

First PCDP? I was 13. Bought it from Service Merchandise. I remember going through about FIVE of 'em before getting one that didn't fail. In hindsight it may have been rough 13 year old handling. :) Had the HUGE battery case too... that thing chewed through batteries in an astonishing fashion. The D5 and D50 were the same thing, but the D50 was the 'outside the US' designation IIRC. Seem to remember you could use NiCDs with it but I never did. It took 6 C-cells.
