shielded Phono/rca cable

Hi,

i want to build a phono cable about 7m long.

it has to be shielded, and have audio and video (3 plugs)

i want it to cost under or around £10

i have a cable currently, but it picks up static.

it is to go between my pc and my av reciever, surround sound amp.

i was looking at this cable http://uk.farnell.com/pro-power/cbbr4162/cable-microphone-2core-black/dp/3894680 and this cable http://uk.farnell.com/alpha-wire/2401c/cable-shielded-22awg-2core-30-5m/dp/1619557 or something like thishttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180512701100&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

for the plugs i was looking at this type http://uk.farnell.com/neutrik/nys373-4/plug-phono-yellow/dp/5008475 and this typehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180489653136&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

What do you think?

Thanks

That all looks fine. I'd discount the microphone cable on account that there's 100m of the stuff, and I'd consider the eBay stuff foremost as long as you don't mind sheathing each strand in heatshrink individually. Also make sure that you use the copper screen as the ground for each jack - so you may end up only using three of the six cores.

For connectors, I'd certianly go with Neutrik. There's a reason why people like them - their products are very well made and easy to work with.

Good luck, and have a DMM on hand in case things don't work.

Thanks. Why do i have to put heatshrink on each strand individually? also can the L, R and video all use the same ground?

L and R can use the same ground, yes. Although you might have less crosstalk if you keep the grounds separate. As for the component video, I'm not sure. I'd have that ground separate to be on the safe side. As for the heatshrinking, it's more for neatness's sake than anything.

What might be easier in terms of wiring is finding some shielded single-strand cable (or the alpha wire only using one core) and then having a separate wire for each connector. Otherwise things with grounds might get a little messy.
