Help with selecting a Headphone amp for my dt770pros

Hey guys,

I just got my Beyerdynamic DT770 pros for Christmas and I'm loving them as they are my first set of quality headphones.  Right now i'm just using them with my onboard PC sound for games and music.  I couldn't get the dt770pros near to where I would enjoy them so I got one of those cheap $30 Chinese headphone amps and it more than powers them, however it hisses like a mother and I just want something of better quality.

SO..  I'd decided to spring 160 bucks for the new X-fi Titanium HD card which has gotten lots of good feedback.  Sounds like its great for both music AND for games, only problem is that I still only have this garbage little amp.

I'd like to get a new headphone amp for my PC setup and don't mind paying $150-$200 (I live in Canada)  Not sure if I should be getting a tube or solid state amp, If one is cheaper and still produces good quality to my untrained ears I'll be happy with it.  I was also wondering, can using poor/mediocre headphone amp nullify the nice sound that my soundcard produces?

I liked my Little Dot 1+ with my 770 Pro 80's. Not saying it is the best option but it worked for me.

Thanks ArmAndHammer,

I was looking at that one origionally and it does look nice.  It kinda looks like a portable amp, I'll never be using the amp I choose apart from my desktop setup, If I just keep the mark1 plugged in 24/7 will this ruin the power supply?

What do you guys think about the FiiO E9?  I've been looking at this one and the price is perfect and I'm hearing some positive things.

The E9 is really good for the price, and should work well with your DT770.

I was reading the review thread about the E9. It gets really great reviews...a lot of people claim it is as good as amps costing much more than the E9 does...and from what I also saw,the  FiiO rep/maybe even the owner...not sure his exact status, was active in the thread as well and was ready and willing to answer questions and take care of problems. I was really impressed by that sort of customer service.

As far as the Little Dot 1+ looking portable...yeah...I guess it does but it's not...it's 6.5" x 4" x 4". Not huge by any means but certainly not portable. Like I said, I liked it well enough with my 770's. I LOVE it with my Grados. It is a warm sounding amp. I'm not sure if the 770's prefer warm or not...I never got to try them on anything else. I don't think a solid state amp would be a bad choice though with these cans. I don't think either amp...the E9 or one of the Little Dots will disappoint you.

The FiiO e9 Drives every can I have.  Including and not limited to the VERY hard to drive DT-990/600s.

The 129.99 for the E9 and only 79.99 for the E7 combo deal is AMAZING!  You will get one of the best values in hi-fi right now!

An extremely power desktop amp.  A portable amp. a USB DAC.  Can be used together or separately.  It is truly amazing and you can see the difference a quality dac can transform your music!
