Soundstage is important. Preferably low ohm so I don't have to break the bank on an amp. And finally, a phone that isn't overly bright.

Hmm, I place my bid on Grados, because they can drive without a amp pretty well and have a great soundstage
There are probably 100 more headphones that are better suited to you, but I recommend grados no matter what.
thanks for the reply.
i failed to mention that i do have an amp (nuforce udac2). its gonna be hooked up via usb to my computer. what i meant was that i didn't want a phone that was power hungry...the udac is good but it isn't exactly high end.
is it safe to assume that most open headphones with a good soundstage are high impedance?
There is too much emphasis placed on impedance. It's not the only factor that makes a headphone hard to drive. Sensitivity is probably more important. There are low impedance headphones that are also low sensitivity and are extremely hard to drive properly.
