annoying background noise

Thread Starter

Hi,

Im having an issue with my sound. Im getting a low/high pitched noise. It seems to relate to processor core activity :S Every time the processor is being used "alot" the high pitched noise goes to a lower pitched noise and when the processor is idle the high pitch is back

The soundcard im using is Auzentech Hometheater HD. I never had this issue before until I got a new motherboard/processor/computercase. I think this has something to do with grounding of some component(s) in the computer but have no clue on how to solve this or diagnose the issue further.

Its not so noticeable when playing music but once you know its there... :/

Is there anything I can do/check to fix this issue (read about some USB dongle, would that help my situation ?) ??

Thanks!

I have a similar issue with my laptop which is cured by unplugging the power supply and running on battery power. I gather you are running a desktop so this isn't really helpful except to suggest it may be a noisy ps.

If you are running an external dac I'd suggest you use the optical out on your sound card if it has that connection or bypass the card and try the an adum dongle out of the usb. Either method should provide galvanic isolation between your pc and dac and eliminate the ps noise.

Without an external dac your options are limited to trying a different power supply or looking into ways to isolate ps noise from the rest of your system (or alternatively isolate your soundcard from the sources of noise inside your pc), which I have no experience with.

If all else fails, crank up the volume!
