Portable Players

I'm going to be studying abroad next fall, and naturally stereo equipment's way too big to bring with me..... So I was thinking about improving my portable CD player's sound. I'm on the airplane every few months anyway, so I figure it'd be worth the money.

Right now, I have an old Sony player (model is D-EJ615) with MDR-V6's and I listen to a lot of techno and trance.

What would be the most cost efficient way to improve sound quality? New CD player? New headphones? An amp? My budget is around $300.

I would go for an amp and a cheap older Sony PCDP from Ebay for under $20. V6's are good travelling headphones, and you can't do much better for your kind of music. Then you can get a pair of home phones when you upgrade. Welcome to Head-fi.
