Is the iBasso d4 worth double the price tag of the NuForce Icon Mobile?

I Have the Denon Ahd2000 and am searching for a good but affordable portable amp. I have scoured the Forums n worn ou the search functions and i cannot decide if the ibasso d4 at 199 is worth more than double the price of the nuforce icon mobile at 79 (esp since the d4 has a 9 hour batt life). is it leaps and bounds better? or should i just save some money?

They are both dac/amps, but I beleave that the D4 has duel dacs, one for each channel.  I don't have both to compare the two, but I would assume that It would have higher SQ.

I had the nuforce, lovely little amp but it is not very powerful! It drove my IE8's very well but did not have enough grunt for anything else really.

 

I did try it with my D5000's but felt it was not really up to the task, it drive them, to good volume but the sound was not inspiring.

 

Gary's PA2V2 however drove them very well and is a lovely little amp but no DAC, Also the sound signature is warmer which may be a bit much for the Denons if they sound similar to the 5000's

With low impedance phones (32 ohm and lower. assuming reasonable sensitivity...), the D4 will rock your world. I suspect that its not the best amp for IEMs, but with the right fullsize cans, you are going to have a party on your hands, The DAC isnt as good as my MSII, but considering you get an amp with a DAC thrown in, I think it remains good value,

thank you violinvirtuoso i have read that a couple days ago =]. thank you every one i think im going to just save up for the d4!! haha i guess ill jsut have to deal with the low volume and uninspired sound until then...... or ill get a pa2v2 to hole me off wink_face.gif haha since i can probably use those with my shure e4c's but well see since im trying to get the d4 ASAP!!!! all the input is grately appreciated

In my experience, D7000 with stock D4 wasn't impressive at all.. in fact, stock amp for the D4 which is AD8066 was better with brighter iems and cans such as K701. After install Topkit on the D4, my D7000 sounded better..way better..

wait really?? so ill have to upgrade it to be satisfied?? also i heard a d6 is coming out soon would that drop the price of the d4? or would i just be better off getting that for a little more money?
