Ef2a DAC details?

I'm not sure what the terms I'm looking for are, but for instance, my E7 DAC does USB in at redbook CD level fidelity expressed as 16/??(24?). Other DACs do SACD quality input expressed as 'higher number'/'higher number' (24/96?).

I can't seem to find this number for the USB DAC for the EF2A. Does anyone know what it is?

I'd like to add an inexpensive DAC/tube amp sound as an alternative and the EF2A definitely fits a 'buy right now' budget.

No one has any idea?

Hey @disastermouse, I've got a EF2A and the USB DAC is basic redbook level - 16 bit 44.1kHz.  It's very ordinary in quality.  Just got an Audio-GD NFB-3 DAC (US$300) to feed it and it's totally transformed it - a huge improvement.  Very nice match.  For a budget level DAC, apparently the Nuforce uDAC-2 (US$129) is also a very nice match.

Keep in mind that a DAC being limited to 16/44.1 is only an issue if you have SACD quality material. If everything you listen to is Redbook, you're not losing any functionality.

I want to have the ability to scale up to HD Tracks recordings.

For SACD, I'll just get a high quality SACD player and connect non-USB.

I thought the DAC on the hifiman was pretty good. Not as good as my HRT but for the price, very adequate.
