I have my Nano 6 hooked up to an RSA Shadow with a Whiplash Twag right angle LOD and it's pretty smalll: about 2.5cms thick (Shadow + Nano 6); 3.8 cms wide (the width of the Shadow); and 6.5cms long {Shadow plus right-angle plug).
The Pico Slim is longer than the Shadow but about 0.5cms thinnner. Not quite as compact, in my opinion.
the ipod connector is the cleanest sound and might give you a slight boost in volume. But the ipod LO connector is also a little more cluncky.
I got a ipod nano 6g, used it for 1 week, sold it for the same price and bought a sansa clip+
Don't buy the new ipod nano, it's ridiculous. Way to small screen. Battery life is no way near 24h, volume is even lower (EU) and it's not video compatible.
SUCKS!
If I'm not mistaken, isn't the screen on the Nano larger than the Clip+? Neither one of them offers video and the sound of the nano is better than the Clip+ by a landslide. That's without rockboxing your Clip+, which some people don't want to do because they don't want to mess with firmware tampering. Dollar for dollar though, the Clip+ is probably the better buy. You are paying boutique pricing for the Nano. Now that you can turn the thing off though, it offers as good or better battery life than the Clip+. It's a tough call. If it's my dollar I'm paying the extra for the Nano because of the Nike Plus software and the sound quality. To me, my Clip+ sounds like I'm in a very small room with some 10 dollar shelf speakers playing. Just very boxy and thin sounding. That's just me though. I like my Clip+ because I like buying the Slot Radio cards. I think that's a great value.

I don't think the nano screen is to small too look at, just too small as in touch-wise. "the extra" is double the price, with less memory to use.
I know you said "that's just me though" and I pretty much think you're right. If you check the sansa clip+ appreciation thread, you'll see very different aspects.
That clip+ appreciation thread is what made me buy mine. I'm not a fan of the sound, but I really like the slot radio cards. But also, mine is not and won't be rockboxed, so I'm not taking advantage of the full potential either. But like I said, value wise, the Clip+ is probably the better all around value.

Any particular reason you don't plan to rockbox?
For ME, personally I haven't and won't rockbox because I don't see the point of it. All I do is listen to music, nothing else. So really rockboxing is just a waste of time for me.
I haven't rockboxed simply due to firmware tampering. It's just not something I want to get involved with. It's really paranoia, but so be it. A very good friend of mine is an attorney and a few years ago he represented a guy that was sued by Sony and Dre's labels for pirating 7 songs!! Yep, you read that correctly. 7 Songs. He was very lucky and got out of it with a 3500 dollar fine and no jail or probation. So since I saw that happen I just really steer clear of messing with firmware and encryption issues. I would rather spend my 3500 on better headphones! lol. Other than that there is no reason. And like I said I am probably missing out on a much better sounding player.
Well, with the Nano 6, you have the option to connect it to the Solo, and it turns into a desktop system.
That's all I do with it, is listen to music. With the Clip+, even if you don't take advantage of the EQ, you still get improved battery life over the Sansa firmware....especially with FLAC.
I got my Nano 6G two weeks ago. I find it very fast and intuitive, simple and elegant design. The screen is small, but the text is readable, and album art makes it easier to scroll for the next album.
