Using itunes to Rip CD's to AIFF or ALAC

There are rumors that using iTunes to RIP CD's directly to ALAC does not work as well as Ripping to AIFF and then converting to ALAC. 

 

Wondering what are your thoughts and experiences with iTunes, AIFF and ALAC and if you use other methods with a Mac.

Use  XLD myself.

Use EAC to rip to FLAC or Wav, then dBpoweramp it to ALAC.

I use XLD nearly all the time with very good results.  I rip directly to ALAC files.  I'll only use iTunes with new, freshly unwrapped CDs where the track names don't populate in XLD (too lazy to type).

 

iTunes does not try hard enough to resolve errors, just moves through quickly.

 

With damaged CDs that XLD can't resolve, I'll also try MAX and xACT to see what gives me the best results.

 

I use MAX for converting FLAC and others to ALAC.  I trust Core Audio more than Quicktime.  Not sure if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the replies. I honestly can't hear any audible difference but I might try a few options and compare.
