(Wow that was really fast response, thanks guys) They really do look like that in real life--although the flash from my macbook probably added to that "bling blong"

really.........................why would grado do such a thing.

I was really hoping for the brushed aluminum housing because of its rugged look. Shame on Grado, but glad to hear they're real :)

probably more rugged as well along with better looking IMO...chrome wears awfully compared to brushed metal

I really want to, since the brushed aluminum is better looking, but I'm sort of afraid to do it since I bought them online and online returns/exchanges are a hassle as everybody knows it. Also the seal on the box is broken so mine probably has to go under "used" if they're to resell it. Maybe I should contact the merchant and see if they have the brushed version... Thanks again for your responses!

My first thought when I saw the new finish on the 325is was that the PS1000 is probably going to get the same treatment.  I know folks have complained about inconsistent finish on the PS1000.  The PS1000 gets some hand buffing but it's still not as consistent and perfect as some folks expect for $1700 headphones.  So a chromed and polished PS1000 with bling might be in process.

I've not seen the new 325is in person yet.  I do like the brushed finish on my 325is even if it is slightly inconsistent and shows some tooling marks.

It'd be a huge shame if they started doing that to the PS1000's... the shinier finish on the 325's make them look like chrome-plated plastic, almost. Only when you pick them up and feel the housing can you tell that it's metal, and even then it sort of feels like plastic.

Contact the place you bought them from (if it wasn't Grado direct) and complain that you were under the impression you were getting the brushed ones. From what you say...you had no idea the chrome ones existed so it's obvious you thought you were getting a different product. The place you bought them from...was there a picture of the brushed aluminum version? I know the Grado site still shows the older version.

what AAH said, then ask for a exchange, if they don't have the brushed metal version in stock anymore, than settle for a refund. BTW, if you're anywhere near harvard square, there is this authorized dealer that i visit frequently, audiolab, anywho, last i checked, they had a demo 3325i (brushed metal version for $230 I think) not the greatest price, but it's help for a local brick and mortar audio store

I bought them from Amazon, and they have three pictures, two being brushed and one gold: http://www.amazon.com/Grado-Prestige-Series-SR325is-Headphones/dp/B000J1N3HW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1293572646&sr=8-1. Perhaps I should contact the seller since you're right about the Grado site pictures, and the Amazon pictures do display brushed ones. Maybe it's just my laziness, but I just think I'll get denied. But I do have original packaging...

LOL..I think you're just lazy, they really have no reason to deny you a refund/exchange, somehow all this news of change is disturbing me more than it should..am i...afraid of change...

If you are not happy then do it. It's your hard earned money and you have the right to get what you paid for. I mean in the end you are still getting a great headphone with the same sound...but still...I'd be a little irritated. It seems the seller has good feedback so I don't see it being a problem. Besides...it looks like you got them from Amazon, not directly from the dealer? If so, Amazon is really great about returns and exchanges...in my experience anyways.

Do 325i's and 325is's differ in sound? (not that I'd recognize) I bought these for the regular price, $295, shipping included.

Although I don't live near Harvard Sq, I can get there... I'm considering returning these and settling for the better looking $230 demo (since it's a big difference for someone my age), although I'd be lucky if they still had it at Audiolab. I'll check it out soon. Thanks for your help :)

unlikely to get the gold (ahhahahh..ha ha (crickets chirping))because those were the anniversary edition, unless you buy it used off head-fi, around the same price of a standard 325is actually

Not sure the sound difference between the 325i and the 325is if there is one.

Also, check the for sale section here...I know there was some brushed ones there recently...if you're not opposed to buying used.

You're right. I'm a little disappointed about my purchase. I should return these... although I'm deciding if I should return what I have and get a 325i from the place buffalowing suggests or get a brushed 325is from Amazon, assuming that they have it. Thanks for your help!

he also sells new 325i's by the way, probably still has a couple in stock, great place, allowed me to try out the HD800's when it was obvious I wasn't remotely interested in purchasing a pair (well, it was obvious I had no funding)

I got luck ( I really like the gold) because my Grado dealer had one pair of the gold ones he was using as demos. He said they were only demoed 3 times including the time I used them and I got 10% because of that. He offered to order me new ones since he didn't have any in stock. He said the only difference was the new ones were brushed aluminum so he wasn't even aware of the new chromed versions. This was only 3 weeks ago.
