Ok, as it says in the title, I would like to buy a new mp3 player, and I need advice on which of these two should I choose. The only thing I care about is sound quality, I'm not going to watch any movies on Sony anyway.

I've been researching information on both of them, so I know some of the advantages and disadvantages of these devices like low volume in Sony or weak battery, however most of the reviews (especially from Amazon) seem to be very 'amateur' in terms of detailed comparison with whats offered on the market for similar price and the actual conclusion on overall quality (in other words, some say they are 'the best in the world', the others say they are sh*t but by looking at only a couple of factors). In most cases, people say they are better than iPods, however my brother says atm its not huge achievement at all (he is much more into this subject than me so maybe hes right).

I don't have much experience with the mp3 players, but I think I could say I'm not very demanding. In the past, I was using one of the Creative's mp3 players, and until now I've been using built-in walkman in my Sony E. W880i. My brother (professor00179 btw.) owns iRiver Spinn, which has a great sound quality, but I really don't expect such results from the players I've given in the title.

Exactly, heres the problem: What should I expect from them? I need opinions of people who know more than 'average amazon customer who gives 5-stars for fast delivery'. You could also suggest other devices, however I'm not going to hide that 'design' factor is also important for me (maybe not as much as sound quality, but still). The price band is up to 70 pounds.

Ok, I guess thas it. Sorry if my thread isn't as comprehensive as you would expect or lacks clarity, but thats really the first time I'm buying mp3 player (and I probably wouldnt anyway, if the walkman in my phone would be still working, but nevermind).

Whatever you get do not go for the E443/E444.

Reasons:

crappy UI speed & response

Poor screen

Buttons make a fat sound & are also tough to press.

The overall build quality is BAD.

The only good thing is the monster bass that happens to be tight & hits very hard.
