Full size headphones to pair with an RSA Tomhawk ($500 max budget)

Hey everyone,

It has been a very long time since I posted.  I've just graduated college, and come into some money (yeahwink_face.gif).

I purchased an RSA Tomahawk, because I do most of my listening through my Triple Fi. 10's.  Ever since that amp has come out, I've wanted one, but was unable to afford one.  Now the time has come for me to get my own.  I love my Triple Fi. 10's.  A Lot.  However, I would like to purchase some full size headphones.  I have set aside up to $500 to spend, but I would be much more comfortable spending <$450.

As my only amp is the RSA Tomahawk, so these headphones must not be too power hungry.  The amp does have a gain switch, so that gives me a little bit of wiggle room.  Looking for something comfortable (I don't find Grados comfortable, but I love the way they sound), and preferably closed.  I am open to purchasing open headphones as well, maybe RS-1s (I like how Grados sound).

Figured maybe someone here could help me out below is exactly what I'm looking for:

Full Size

Closed (ok, maybe open?)

Not Grados (ok, maybe RS-1s?)

Happy with the power an RSA Tomahawk provides

Easily worn for long periods of time (comfy!)

Glad to be back on Head-Fi, this really is a great place with some knowledgeable and kind folk.

Forgot my source!  I will be using either my iPhone 4g (ALO dock) or my Technics SL-something (1980's) turntable (forgot exact number) with NAD PP2 phono statge.

yay!

the big AKGs are the most comfy IMO, it's quite lite yet does not feel cheap. you never have to adjust the band and it has just enough clamp to stay on. and the K240 MkII(semi open), K271 MkII(closed with auto shut off) are not too power hungry at 55 ohms. lots of pros choose them as studio phones.

the K702 has great sound but the tomahawk may not drive it with authority.

i also like the grado sound and dread the grado feel but some people mod them to have larger cups/pads that go around the ear.

if you go for AKGs check to see where they are made...some are now made in China, if that is the case it wont say "made in China" it just doesn't say "made in Austria"

not that i think China cant make a good product (in fact they have been making some good stuff recently) just that i have not personally owned Chinese made ones and cant speak for them.
