DAC, do I need it?

Thread Starter

I have been sifting through threads and I still can't figure out if I need a DAC.  My DAP(digital audio player?) is a ipod touch 3rd gen. What I have figured out is that I need a LOD to my amp, so cheers to me because this site has educated me thus far.  Can someone maybe direct me to where some info. might be accessible for a DAC.  I got myself a 300ohm headset but I don't know how to power it:(  I am thinking that I will waiting for the fiiO11, but it has no DAC.  This is my conundrum;  if I need the DAC w/the amp to get the most out these headphones. You don't have to write much, just web links would suffice.

Thanks for reading this and possibly helping me get started,

Chris

No, not from an iPod.

You do not need a dac only for your ipod.

Dacs are usually used with laptops and pcs as an external soundcard because they are better than the ones in the pc itself.  If you are planning to use your headphones with a pc then you should consider buying an amp with a dac.
