OK, I'll start saving now! I know that my Schiit 'Ström' is pretty out there, VU meters and all, but a two box setup with balanced in/out wouldn't be too much. Those nice Schiit silver boxes would be just the ticket as well.

Did somebody say Schiit Storm?

Dude yer gonna have to get yer Schiit together

to save all the samolians yer gonna need fer that one.

If they made headphones too, would they could call them Schiit-heads?

Too much free time and too few facts. Seems like a long wait until March.

I just pre-ordered the Lyr and LCD-2. Hopefully I'll be able to get both in before my spring break vacation.

GOOD GOD.. I'll have to wait a WHOLE month!! :(

In that case, Schiit rules ! Schiit in ears buds, Schiit heads, Schiit cans, Schiit tubes. I may just order this Schiit and get it over with.

"Schiit-heads"? Since when did they start making car parts? Will they fit a 350 Chevy small block?

On a more serious note, maybe Jason can elude to what kind of sound quality this amp will have. I've already been pretty happy with my Asgard & HE-5LE pairing. Have you guys acquired any of the HE phones and compared them with the Asgard or looked into how the voicing pairs up? Since the LCD-2 is relatively easy to drive compared with HE's, I would think the HE's would be a prime target.

stuckonsound,

I'm on a similar boat as you.  I have a CKKIII, a discrete solid state amp that outputs a respectable amount of current.  It's not an Asgard, but it has me curious how the HE-5 sound would change with 4 times the watts from the Lyr (CKKIII is rated at 1.4W @ 33ohms).  In any case, only another month to go to find out!

Any Valhalla owners able to comment on that amp combined with the Senn 600?  Been narrowing  down a short list of amps to go with 'em, and had considered building an m^3 (largely for optionals like extra inputs etc) with the Schiit also making the list. But with this Lyr announcement, I'm thinking that while the m^3 might offer better sound/options, the price on the Valhalla (and stuff like Littledot etc) is tough to beat. And if the Valhalla is good w/ Senn 600, that might make the Lyr a no-brainer, despite it pushing my budget.

The Asgard is currently the best match for the HD600s.  They sound wonderful together!  Can't wait for the Lyr!!

I thought that the Asgard was just the Schiit for Grados and Denons, while the Valhalla was voiced more for the HD600/650. The official Schiit:

"Asgard is a credible competitor even to products that cost much more. Especially if you’re listening with low-impedance headphones. If you haven’t heard Asgard and Grados, you’re missing out on one of the most amazing things in life. And, oddly enough, both low-impedance and high-impedance Senns love the amp–think 555s to 598s, 580s to 650s."

Evidently the Senns can go either way, while Grados love the Asgard and AKGs prefer the Valhalla; but which Schiit would be better for the Audio Technicas, like the AD2000 or W1000X? Somebody straighten me out please!

The official word from Jason I believe when the Asgard came out was that the Asgard absolutely loved Senns. At a gain of 5 in Class A, I can see why. I would say 3-4 is about the right gain for Grados, and perhaps 2-3 for Denons, but 5 would of course work. The Asgard should be awesome with Senns. The Valhalla should definitely be better with AKGs with its higher gain (8) and the Lyr, with a very high gain (10) awesome for Orthos or K1000s.

I wouldn't bother with the Lyr on Grados. Heck, I wouldn't bother with the Valhalla on them either. I think you'll just be better off with the Asgard on some 'phones, even if it is $200 less. It's not all about power.

Hd600s sound great with the Asgard, by my ear and by Schiit Audio's published statements.  AKGs happen to sound (by others' reports,) good with the Valhalla.  Any headphone whose impedance is below 120 ohms is more likely to perform better with the Asgard, but that's just a rule of thumb, not a hard fact.

I have both the Asgard and Valhalla.  Grados are definitely good from the Asgard, as are Denons.  I also preferred the Asgard over the Valhalla for the HD650 and HD800.

The Valhalla seemed to have better synergy with the K701 than the Asgard.  Also, I drastically preferred the Valhalla over the Asgard for 600-ohm Beyers, like the DT880/600 and T1.

I actually just asked Jason about the Audio Technicas (W1000X in particular).  While he said he hasn't heard any of the AT woodies on the amps, he has heard the A900, and said the Asgard was a very good match with it.  This would seem to make sense, as the closed AT headphones are similar (spec and architecture-wise) to Denons.

Yah I don't think there's any amazing synergy with the 600s. They don't sound bad together, and I do like the hint of tubes, but like the guys at Schiit said they really don't click like they were made for each other. I did, however, keep the Valhalla over my HDP if that means anything.
