This amp does look seriously interesting. Does anyone think it could be a nice addition to a K701? I'm also looking at something that could hold future upgrades well.

Another thing, I've seen that theoretically it is able to drive the K1000, but how could I connect it to the Lyr? Since there are no speaker terminals or XLR out.

Im assuming a XLR to 1/4 adapter. Ive seen them around before so I know they exist.

Thank you, pseudohippy!!

I've gone through most of these posts in this thread but had a hard time finding an answer. Which Dac would do a good job of complimenting this amp for a set of LCS 2's? BTW thanks for all the literature you guys provide. It has been extremely helpful for me while I am on my way to audio bliss.

Considering that nobody has heard this amp it may be a hard question to answer. Although based on specs alone there might be some opinions. Schiit is apparently working on a DAC so perhaps waiting for theirs would be best. You would have to assume that complimenting the Lyr would be the plan for them.

I also am curious to hear what everyone's thoughts are about the Lyr and K701. Though I enjoy my m-stage, I can't stand the looks of it.

It seems like a Gamma2 would have similar punch for dollar and it costs about the same.

Thanks, might just wait for that to happen. They haven't made any hints to as when that might be have they?

I've always felt that the K701s were one of the most difficult to drive properly cans on the market, not to mention the K1000s, and I'm hopeful that the Lyr will be a game changer.

@ptrock,

Jason has mentioned a DAC several times in this very thread. Try searching and see what you find. I personally am pretty excited about it, as I am sure it will have great performance and value like the rest of the Schiit lineup.

X2 on both counts.

Thread Starter

Hey all,

Just a quick update.

First, K1000s. Kevin (kwkarth) was kind enough to loan us his K1000s for several days of listening. Once I pried the K1000s off Mike's head, I can now confirm: the Lyr/K1000 pairing isn't just good in theory--it's great in fact. There's more than enough volume and headroom, and Lyr's basic character (tonally honest, dynamic, and transparent) comes through loud and clear with the K1000s. Of course, you will need a 4-pin to 1/4" converter, but those are pretty common.

(and yeah, I know, we need to do a balanced amp with 4-pin connector)

Second, production update: March 1 is looking solid. The chassis came in today, which was the bugaboo on the last intro (Valhalla)--so I'm thrilled to say this metal is perfect! There are a few other pacing items, but most of the scary deadline-destroying stuff is done.

Third, K701s. One of my favorite headphones, and Lyr is a scarily good match. It turns the K701 into one of the most naturally dynamic and resolving conventional designs available. Failing that, try the K701s with Valhalla. Yes, Valhalla. Yes, I know it makes no sense. But it works.

Fourth, Asgard. It's now back in stock, if anyone is interested, and incorporates the new transformer and mounting process to eliminate the mechanical hum noted by 6moons.

Fifth, DACs. Mike made me promise not to set a date, nor reveal any details. But remember, this is the guy who launched the entire category of standalone DACs, the first to use custom digital filter code, the first to concentrate on measuring and minimizing jitter, the first with upgradable products . . . bottom line, if you need a DAC tomorrow, don't look at us, but they will be worth the wait. IMO. YMMV. And other disclaimers.
