New Schiit Lyr: Hybrid 6W Headphone Amp. Yes. Six. Watts. RMS. - Page 15

I think what we should do is to create a balanced ipod.  ipodo-mono-blockhead

Two separate ipods playing the same track, but left channel in mono from one and right channel in mono from the other.

The mono outputs can then be bridged, push/pull......  sheesh!  ;-)

Are these amps not being recommended in the ortho threads? One big difference in price and if there is little gain for such an expense for headphone use, the Lyr amp looks to be a shoe-in.

Since the Lyr hasn't hit the market yet, I doubt you'll see reviews or recommendations until they're released and reviewed, but I agree with you, on paper it looks like a shoe-in for ortho's, not to mention the venerable K-1000.

Gizmodo just gave the lyr some coverage (i resisted the low brow joke glaring at me in that).

Pretty cool given all the head-fi gear they DON'T cover.

Just randomly thought about something, would you be able to offer these in black? so they don't stand out like an ugly duckling in a sea of black gear.

I am pretty sure that the Lyr (or the other Schiits, for that matter) is not at all capable of being an 'ugly duckling', even in a sea of relatively good looking gear. It is a design beauty that will be best described a magestic swan, among sitting ducks, I think!

It also kills uniformity ;)

I'm sure that it would not be too hard to paint, powdercoat or anodize the casing yourself,

albeit at a price (~$100) and you would void the warranty and have to take it apart to prep it.

Not something that everyone can, would, or should do.

Great idea but....

These guys at Schiit are just a small startup company.

Keeping things uniform and simple is instrumental to moving product out the door and their bottomline.

Too many options complicates things.

Maybe in the future as they grow, they may diversify in this area of product styling..

Pre-ordered -- I must confess, I love this Schiit!  My Asgard and Valhalla have served me well, and to my ears they have matched or even exceeded some higher-priced gear I've heard.  I'm looking forward to seeing what the Lyr can for the dynamics of my HD800, as well as perhaps an HE-6 in the not-so-distant future...

"Introducing Price and free international shipping policy will be stoped after Jan 15th. 2011.
HE-6 Final Price will be 1199 USD or more."

Yeah, I know...I really wish I had the cash on hand to take advantage of the introductory price.  Looks like I'll have to pay an extra $200 or 300 later to pick up a pair, or try to find a used pair here on Head-Fi.  Oh well, such is life...frown.gif

BUT there is a "P" model that does not need 6W of power AND is less expensive.
