Yes, I dare to say that most desktop amps can drive such headphones easily.

Now which one is more detail in SQ between Valhalla and Lyr ?

C

Can't say. Nobody has a Lyr yet.

A balanced amp based on Asgard topology would be awesome! The Asgard already reminds me of the Gilmore Lite, so it would be an awesome professional and well priced alternative to a Dynamid.

Also, while balanced may not seem to be in line with their product strategy, a balanced version doesn't seem like total nonsense. Not when they could go the "module" route and use the same modules in different amps.

If the Lyr didn't already exist, I would say that balanced Asgard and Valhalla would be awesome at $449 and $549.

I would die for a balanced piece of schiit with a 4 pin balanced headphone connector and 2x3 pin balanced preamp outputs. In fact, I might even pay $549 for a balanced Asgard with balanced pre outputs. Maybe they could be the $549/$649 entrants? wink_face.gif That might even dissuade me from getting a GS-1 as my headphone amp/preamp.

OK after much contemplation .... I placed my pre-order! :)

Jason has been such a great guy, I just had to order it ...

Hell... It's got my vote!! I'm moving - or rather - starting - on home based headphone amplifiers rather than solely portable amps. As soon as I saw this I thought it would be the answer to my prayers. An amp that would drive anything. I think.... I'll only know once I receive it. So, my pre-order has been placed and I hope I'm one of the first to receive one. Really looking forward to March 2011.smily_headphones1.gif

I'm seriously considering this for my stand-alone HE6 system but want to check the feature set of the upcoming EF6 before I commit. Or maybe I should sell all my stuff that's not made in  the USA, keeping only the LCD-2, this Schiit, and my Devilsound DAC. Oh yeah and my Woo. That would make me a red-white-and-blue yankee doodle dandy.

In the meantime, you could get two Asgards and wire up some adapters to hook it up in balanced config, then control volume through a preamp.

So what does it mean to have so much power in a preamp?

edit: whoops nevermind, post wasn't directed at me

Its a preamp with a very powerful headphone amp. So if you need more power or a tube speaker amp for your HE-6, you can connect your HE-6 to your amp and this Schiit as a preamp.

So power doesn't really matter for a preamp?  It's just about volume control and a clean signal?

Far as I am concerned it controls the flow of water, much like a flood gate.

This is not your typical preamp. It ony has 1 set of input. A preamp would have many inputs for your tuner, DAC, tape, CD, even phono. And an input selector switch.

So the pre-amp feature passes the line-level input through to another amp but is that passed-through signal attenuated with the volume knob?

I know it's not made specifically to be a preamp, I'm just curious how 6 Watts would effect it's performance as a preamp.  I guess it's not really that beneficial to have a high powered pre-amp though?

It probably doesn't go through ANY amplification if you use a preamp output.  It would have to have a separate line.  Otherwise itde just be an RCA or something like that headphone amp output.
