Need help choosing first desktop amp.

Hi everyone, I'm just getting into the headphone scene and need some advice choosing my first desktop amp.

I use two sets of cans, Phiaton MS400's and HD555's. I will mostly be using my 555's with the amp, but I'll occasionally run my 400's.

I want a desktop amp with an EQ that can run from A/V power without the need for a laptop or PC as the source. I want to use my iPod's line-out as the source, I just wasn't sure if there was any type of desktop amp out there that had iPod connectivity...which is why I thought this would be the best place to ask.

So is there anything out there that meets my requirements? Or have I just made a fool of myself?

Do you look for a pre/headphone amplifier with built-in Equalizer?

What is "A/V power" ?

All amplifiers can connect to an iPod's LinOut using a LOD, are you looking for an amplifier with a built-in iPod dock?

I want the amp to have a built in EQ, I mean switches/knobs to adjust treble, bass etc.

A/V power meaning I plug it into the wall.

I don't understand how the amp connects to the iPod's line-out through an LOD, could you please explain?. I'm not wanting a built in iPod dock, I just want to be able to connect my iPod to the amp as well as my phones to listen to music.

I apologize for not explaining very well.

Many will object to that, many will agree, I think this can be a very good solution for this kind of use!

I am sure you can find one locally for sale too!

A "LOD" is a connector for taking out the LineOut signal from the bottom connector of the iPod (LineOutDocking-connector), look around here in HeadFi, or you can find in eBay.

You don't need the most expensive and hyped-up device, find your amplifier first then find the LOD with the proper connections to connect to your amplifier.

Using this amp as an example;

Obviously I plug the phones into the front port with a 6.5mm jack, but where does the iPod plug in for it to be the source of music?
