ok, so i have everything on my cmoy hooked up. i can hear music, both with and without the battery. and it sounds the same. what did i do wrong?

Something's wrong with your wiring, possibly indirectly, like a melted jack. Post pics.

 

While you're waiting for someone else to get around to interpreting the pics, compare what you've done to what you see in the lower right quarter of the layout PDF.

i will post pics in a little bit. also, i've noticed that the battery only lights up the led.

Looks like the op amp has some solder bridges.

None of the solder blobs for the op amp pins should touch.

Yes, you might want to take a look at that. Desoldering braid is your friend on this one. Other than that, nice job =)
