Part's 4th Symphony: Lousy Recording

I was really looking forward to this but there seems to be a least one or two people in the audience who have congestion issues as I can hear sniffling, coughing and shuffling throughout the recording.

I find this terribly annoying.

Will part re-record this symphony in some other setting?

The only recording so far is the ECM one with Salonen, which I won't buy because of the filler of Kanon "fragments" -- quite irresponsible for ECM as they sell their stuff at above-premium prices.

If the music is any good there will be more recordings in the future.

This seems to be a new trend. In order to save more money and increase profits, many labels are choosing to record live venue performances. While I love live music, the little nuances like congestion issues and shuffling drive me nuts. I hope it's a short lived trend.

That said, if you are good at remastering stuff, you can sometimes remove these issues without affecting the music at all.

I've had a discussion about this with a composer at BU once and he said there is a high-tech program that basically lays out a spectrum of sound, and with this you can basically edit specific pitches made by specific timbre--i.e. if a violin is playing a wrong note at a certain time, you can edit it to a correct note. With this, editing out coughs or sniffs should be easy. Problem is, I don't know the name of the program (I know that it exists because the composer I talked to saw this in person), and it's supposed to be extremely expensive.

This is a possibility, albeit a remote one, although my guess is that Pärt, if his symphony is popular enough to be recorded again, or if he and an orchestra are to sign a deal to perform it, will release another recording. I mean, his 4th is pretty recent, so I'd expect future recordings...
