Running Grado SR225i's from a Turntable

Hi,

I'm looking to run a pair of Grado SR225i's from a turntable, and due to the fact that turntables put out a tremendously small amount of volume, I'm looking for an amplifier to put in the middle. I'd like to spend $100 or under, and I wanted to refer to head-fi to try to help me make a more educated decision. I'd been looking at possibly making a Cmoy, but as I'm a complete novice at DIY, I'd prefer to stay away from soldering. I'd looked at the FiiO E5, but read many unimpressive reviews, and a $20 portable amp doesn't seem like a great idea to try to get any kind of analytic sound out of the source.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Ready made cmoy

Get E7+E9 over E5.

Consider mini3, pa2v2

Those above all quite affordable.

You need a phono preamp, and then a headphone amplifier.  The only decent way to do both for under $100 is to use a stereo receiver.  You could look for something vintage used.  Old Marantz, Pioneer, or Onkyo receivers have good headphone outputs and good phono preamps.

(BTW, nothing in the post previous to mine will work directly out of a turntable.)

Sorry! I forgot to mention that I have RCA inputs that work fine without a phonotable from this specific turntable. I currently have them hooked into a decent set of shelf speakers. I'll take a look into the E7+E9 combo, I looked through the forum a little more and found some good things about that. Is there any specific place that has them as a combo for the US? Preferably if there's a brick and mortar store I could go to, that'd be great.

Thanks!
