AKG702's with DAC/AMP vs Onboard audio and cost.

Thread Starter

I have a pair of 702's I've been using for a few months I listen to most of my audio mediamonkey/flac codecs(6? commpresion rate), pandora(192kb/s), and ventrilo(64kb/s) this takes place through my onboard motherboard and a stereo cable. The AKGS cost me $200. I've been seeing that most of the recommended amps/DAC run 500-600 what if the justification of this cost, I'm looking to spend a max of 200$ on an amp/dac. What kind of quality increase will i see?

Well honestly I think you  could do well with an amp like the Little Dot 1+ ( around 130 USD after shipping ) and a cheap good DAC like the HRT music streamer II ( $150) which is a lot less then 500-600 I have a smilier setup ( specs in sig ) and I can tell you that its a huge difference in sound. Without the headphone amp the 702s sound flat, dull, unalive and generally lacking compared to when they are connected through an amp.
