Whats goin on everyone? my names zack, im 17, and have been into car audio since i was old enough to know what it was. the other day someone on another forum i am on mentioned this one, and told me i should take a look around here. I am totally new to this end of portable audio. i have always had ipods and other MP3s, but never got into the sound of them. i recently got a Zune HD, and decided i would like to get a lil more out of it. if anyone can give me some advice as to what i should be looking for in a pair of headphones and a amp for a good price thatd be awesome.

thanks

zack

Nice to meet you, Zack! I hope that you enjoy your stay!

1) What's your price range

2) What kind of music do you listen to

3) Would you prefer on-ear (full size) or in-ear (IEMs) headphones

You should probably go and ask you question in the right forums, portable headphones and amps, respectively.

And welcome to head-fi (I'm leaving the bit about your wallet to someone else).

depending what kind of funds xmas brings. im probably looking to spend around 400-500 for everything. to be honest, im not even sure what i need. but i have learned that forums are a great place to start. i have NO problem buying used, to get the most out of my money. and i mostly listen to rap, heavy bass music.(imma basshead with a big ol 4kw system in my car)

sorry i forgot to mention, lately ive been using in ears, but i would imagine you could get a lot more bass/quality for the money with full sized headphones, so i would like to try a pair of full sized ones this time around.

Probably a pair of Beyerdynamics DT880s and a budget tube amp like the little dot mark 3?

hmmmm. im liking what people are saying about those headphones. mostly "a lot of bass" but can find much info about the amp you mentioned. think you could link me to a site?

thanks

The DT880s do have a lot of bass but i feel is more balanced sounding than the DT770s and the DT990. It's a blending actually. And the Little Dot Mark 3 is a popular budget tube amp that can be bought online on ebay or amazon( i think).

You might wanna consider looking at both tube amps and solid state (anything other than tubes) because at that price range they are pretty different.

amp is a lil on the big side, and the tubes seem like they would get broken traveling with me. ill mostly be using the setup at school/doing homework/on airplanes. so looking for something on the smaller side, and durability is a must.
