A cell phone as a source (again!)

I've read through couple of those threads about cell phones and SQ but they all seem pretty outdated and don't really answer the question. Basically, I have to switch to cell as a source in order to stop missing my calls. An iphone costs a good thousand bucks where I live and is absolutely out of question. There's also Sony Ericsson Zylo that can play FLAC and has a battery life of 4 hours (according to youtube reviews)! I'd probably go for a Blackberry Bold since I've always wanted myself a Blackberry but people say the sound quality is bad. Other then that I don't even know. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The only non-smart-phones (i.e. no data plan) that have a decent audio player are LG's Chocolate series and the Sony Ericsson Series.

And what are the smartphones that have a decent audio player? I just want to know my options before I start deciding on what to buy and whether to buy at all. Hence my question :).

Basically there's no point in using a phone as a source unless it's an iphone am I getting it right?

Shame really. If it was six hundred or seven even I'd close my eyes and take it but a thousand is kind of an overkill. Gah! /rant off

Your pretty much right. The only reason the iPhone is so good, is Apple already designed fairly decent DAPs. You might want to look into the Android family though. Most have acceptable sound quality, and there are plenty of good player apps. Also, I would check out the Creative Zii Egg.

I've heard from some people that they liked the sound out of their Samsung Galaxy S phones

I am using the HTC Desire Z with RockBox and flac files and it has reasonably good sound...as good as my sansa e2xx or my meizu daps sound.

I've got no problem spending 1k on a phone granted I have this kind of money. The problem here is that a phone that costs that much becomes more of a luxury then just a device. Would you rather smash something that costs 300 bucks or even 500 bucks for that matter or something that is worth twice as much? There's the main disadvantage of living in a third world country - you can't buy yourself a reasonably priced iphone! beyersmile.png Thanks for your advice.

Thanks. I'll look into it.

Kind of a pricey device as well. But thanks nevertheless.
