I've pre-ordered am Ether, so we'll see how that fares against the 6 when it comes sometime late June/early July.

On topic: I went and grabbed two Questyle CMA800R to monoblock with the 6. They impressed when I heard them earlier in the year. I note they can be used as a pre-amp also, which will be handy down the line when I eventually settle on a speaker amp. Will make for quite a versatile system given the CMA800R have dual single-ended outputs, as well as the dual 3-pin XLR outputs for monoblock duties.

Ooh! I think you're the only person other than Project86 who's gone that route. I'll be very curious to hear your impressions.

I think there is one other HE-6 owner running them this way too, from memory. I had a pretty lengthy session with them A/B'ing against a fully upgraded WA5 (via H1K output) and preferred the Questyle. I think they were on a level really, but I preferred what the monoblocks brought to the table. I can't wait to really try them out at home in my rig with the 6 though, those longer term impressions are always worth more.

I asked Questyle about how much power goes into a 50ohm load and the said 4.32w per channel, that's pure Class A of course. Their current mode amplification is meant to allow excellent current swing, and I guess is part of the magic with the 6.

Where did you buy and how it cost for pair (monoblocks)?

There happened to be two going in the for sale forums, so snagged them both. Cost was a bit less than one new one here, where they run at close to $3000NZD a piece. Don't think I'd contemplate getting them at new prices.

I sold my Taurus a little while back, haven't actually had anything that can run the 6 for a little while, that probably helped push me (as well as funding the purchase).

Happy to be of service to your wallet smily_headphones1.gif

Nuprime  IDA-8 will be released next month, it is mix of ClassA and D. IDA-16 was awesome with HE-6, but I want only AMP, not a DAC & AMP unit.

I could one of IDA-8 early adopters

I saw that. Very interesting, but gotta sell off stuff first. So hey if somebody wants to buy my NAD C390DD amp... (sounds really good, but way too big for my desk )

Interesting...

HiFiMAN said that the HE-6 will be discontinued and that there would be a new model between the 560 and 1000.
