If you're going to throw that type of money down, you could get a much better integrated amp.

My HE6 has been modded (Fuzzor, grills off, vegan pads). Also has ALO ref 8 cable. No harshness when I drive it from the Taurus SS amp (but the Taurus can't deliver the grunt to make the HE6 truly shine).

I'm thinking it might be a burn in issue as my WA5 is relatively new (50 to 80 hours). Good to know that this is not something that other folks are experiencing - makes me think even more that it is likely to fix itself with burn in.

I haven't heard SE6SN7 SEP274B but on my set up (Tungsol BGRP 6SN7 and GEC U52) there is zero harshness with the HE6.

Thanks for the input. I'll give it an additional 100 hours burn in and see what happens.

hello guys :L3000:

do you think it would be best to get a SS power amp instead of a tube one for the HE-6 if my budget is lower than $1000-$1200
thanks :beerchug:

With SS amp, there are no tubes to mess around with. Vacuum tubes are not cheap, specially with speaker tube amps.

And to get a tube amp that will power the HE6 will typically require one with more than a couple of tubes.

Yup, like these monos. Retubing these beasts would cost more than the HE-6.
