Any news from Brunk?

He hasn't been online for a month now and still has 3x DIY F5 amps in the work :o.

Anyone driving with Firstwat F5 clone?

Yes. I've used one for several months and find it works just fine except on the most demanding pieces with a full symphony orchestra engaged, typically during crescendos where the volume is necessarily loud. Even then, the distortion manifests as a flattening of the sound, particularly the bass, rather than being harsh or tearing.

Not I, but, there are several using First Watt/Nelson Pass amps.

Currently using a Pass 30.5. Replaced my First Watt F3. Sounds awesome!

Currently playing with an F5. Sounds very good, but I do not know the HE-6 limits yet! :)

What was wrong with F3 acantor?

I can imagine. I used to own this amp and loved it. I no longer have the room for a speaker amp. If I did HE-6 abd a 30.8 would be end game material for me

I agree, and the thought of upgrading to the 30.8 unfortunately looms!

Anecdotally, there were a couple of members who drove an F3 into clipping with their HE-6 (had to do with the max. voltage swing that particular model is capable of) and taking things to extremes.  Al mentioned a sound reproduction that was also thinner than with speakers using the same F3.  But he did say that the level of detail in the music was incredible.

I ordered a DIY F5 with Brunk and if/when he comes through (not seen on the site for a month and I tried contacting him through pm and mail over the past 2 weeks to no avail, starting to get worried) it'll be mounted in an 'oversized' box with easy connectors enabling a quick swapping of boards so that I can turn an F5 into a F1-J or (when the plans for the boards are released) an F3.

I forgot to pile on one more PM!  I could respect life events suddenly commanding his attention as well as the hobby. We really just want a sign or trace that he's ok.
