I tried first by removing the inner ring and put the flaps over the cups. The inner cloth is wrinkled and the whole thing is not really rigid.

I decided to put the rings back inside and taped the hifiman mounting rigs outside using the audeze tape.
It's clearly not optimal in terms of physical conduction and as a result the bass is clearly not as tight as with the original pleather and the overall sound has some bloom to it.

Air is less present but I like the tonality. The treble seem more in focus and detailed compared to the pleather.

I assume the pads play a big role in the Audeze house sound considering what they do to the HE-6.

The comfort is awesome!

Leave the inner ring and attach the flaps directly to the double sided tape. Don't use the Hifiman ring at all. You'll get a much tighter seal and no more leaky bass.

Didn't brunk put the flaps around the cups?

I thought of what you did but my concern was that I could not rotate the pads to adjust them afterward.
It is how they are mounted on the LCD-X, actually.

Yep, that's exactly what I did. I also used the included sticky tape to seal it to the driver after I rotated the pads into a comfy position. Once that was done, I unscrewed the drivers from the headband and made a small hole in the flaps where the screws go and they are now mounted firmly in place without worry of rotating, or moving out of place :)

After having the Vegan pads on for a week - with the felt-on-grill mod done before that - I would actually call the sound I get a little dark...!

The lower mids and bass (incl. sub bass) is more prominent than with HiFiMan pads, and the extra amount of lower mids is slightly too much. This is creating a slight "veil" - a bit like pushing speakers too close to the front wall; the tonality gets darker and this veils the sound a bit.

I should add that I still have the stock quarter foam on while putting felt on the rest of the grill.

That matches my 5mn impressions. Air definitely took a step back.

Did anyone ever tried the Alpha Pads on the LCDs? They certainly sound less dark that the Vegan pads. This could be an answer for the lack of air of the Audezes (X included).

I have tried a bunch of speaker amps and they all sound just about the same , and very good I might say.

Woo audio WA5.
Krell kav 400 xi.
Aragon 8008BB.
DENON 5805CI
AUDIO GD M8.
Did you connect He-6 to Denon 5805 directly without series resister?
I will have Denon 2805 similar to 5805.

The 5805 sounded better than ef-6?
Thanks.

Yes I did it is was fantastic. I also did the same with the 3805
And had the same result.

By the way although the internal DAC is pretty good
But there is better now the amps inside are fantastic
And the 5805 CI. is thx certified as well.

These receivers are still star of the art
In many ways.
Enjoy.

Between the stock pads (2 pairs) of the HE-6, which do most users prefer?

Also, which mod is an absolute must with these cans?

I prefer the pleather for comfort and the warmer/fuller tone.

As I am going to say what's good for me. Stock pads stock wires
I am getting g a silver wire pair made up custom 12 feet long
Triple 20 gauge wire. And I only tried the other pads that came with it.

I know I'm boring and lack adventure people. But I'm old and have no time.

BRUNK please forgive me 😎😎😎😎
