I'm few days away to give you my answer to that question (albeit compared to the SA-31, which is twice as powerful, but I found was not excellent, in contrary to with all the other Hifimans).

Darryl, I'm reaching the US late this week! You can shed a tear (or not, most likely :D) and clear this beast off your desk :D

it sounds terrific....takes more than raw power to adequately drive a headphone....

That EF sounds very good.with the 6s. It compares with most any amp I've had the chance to hear them on. Philo, how does it do with your other headphones?

Yes but at a price point of over $1599 you can get a more versatile speaker amp of fantastic quality

That was fast.  Good luck on the move.  Yup this beast is waiting for you.  Can't wait to hear your impressions.

Happy Camper and I enjoyed it while it was here.

I just purchased a pair of HE-5s  - now the reace is on, I waned to see how they sound on the EF-6 as well.

Good to hear the EF6 has a nice sound despite the less power over some amps! I'm acutally hoping to upgrade to the AGD REF 10.32 [PCM Dac ] Unit before I get an HE 6

Getting closer to completion of my First Watt F5. Just need to wire it up! The rest of the wires came in the mail so hopefully I can complete it this weekend.

Pics of First Watt F5 (Click to show)

I went to my local Hifi Dealer with my Hardwired banana jack HE-6. The only amp in the shop that i can honestly say that was a clear upgrade over my Yamaha A-S2000 was a McIntosh MC302 and it would cost you almost 4x the price as well. The clarity and breathtaking bass was effortless from this 98 lb. 300W per channel monster of pure sonic bliss :D

Solid State, I didn't bring my impedance box to try tube amps, but they didn't have any tube McIntosh amps available for demo at the moment. They are getting a whole bunch of new models in next week so it was a little sparse.

Summary of the nominal specifications:
Measured at 120 V AC with a 25 ohm source and an 8 ohm load:

Distortion @ 1 watt .001% to .005% @ 1 KHz
Input Impedance 101 Kohm
Damping Factor 60
Output power stereo 8 ohms 25 watts @ 1% THD, 1KHz
Voltage Gain 15.3 dB
Maximum unclipped output +/-20 Volts
Maximum output current 10 amps
Frequency response - .0 dB @ DC, -3 dB @ ~ 1 megaHertz    Can you say "holy cow!"
Noise ~60 uV unweighted, 20-20 KHz
Power consumption 180 watts

Especially since it'll be used for a headphone amp! Power consumption of 180 watts? Yes please! :veryevil:
