What exactly is the CAST and does it have a significance regarding sound? Thanks.

Good question. Ask these guys, after all, they make them.

Wuwhere, thank you so much for posting all this^. Like I said before, I am new to electronics, besides some physics in college, but I was hoping to start simple DIY projects after my daughter does not require 24/7 supervision. This looks like a perfect start. I really appreciate it. I am saving these posts!

You're welcome. I'm not a EE either, just some basic electronics and physics too in college on my way to a math and computer science degree. A lot of these stuff you just pick up as you ride along this hobby. The Mills are already very good resistors for this application, I'm actually using them. I did order some Duelunds (non-cast) from hificollective for comparison but through my screw up, I did not receive them. These resistors are very very expensive (because they are handmade???) and if they don't make any positive difference over the Mills, well, that would really suck.

I'm curious if anyone here has considered using the the speaker output of the Dacmini PX.

I had a DACmini for a while and the sound quality was very good. Never thought to try a PX and use the speaker outs. It's got 25 wpc from them so it would certainly be plenty of power.

I've been running mine off the Nuforce Icon2 and think it sounds great (and I've tried a fair share of other speaker amps). I've been looking around at other all-in-one dac/headamp/speaker amps and the Centrance looks like a step up... but who knows. If I could find one used that someone would like to trade for, I'd like to do a head-to-head comparison.

If it can't... there's something seriously wrong. There's a ridiculous amount of power there. (assuming I did my numbers right, about 16W into the HE-6, and around 200W into a 4 ohm load with some current left to spare if you really wanted to)
