Grub Dac Issues

Hi.  Today I was trying to remove a bridge from some of the pins on the dac chip, but then one of the pads fell off.  Will this effect it?

Depends on the pad - some are not attached to anything.  Good close up pictures will help show us if you have a problem.

Nvm, I messed up to the point that I can't fix it-- one of the pins fell off :(

Which pin, you might not be screwed, not all the pins are used in U1. Stop for a second and take a pic.

You don't have to worry, if the pad is gone you can use a small piece of wire and connect that pin to where it needs to be.

Alright.

The left most pin on the bottom row fell off.  On the right row, the third pad from the bottom fell off.

Thanks, btw :]

If I'm interpreting things correctly, both pins need to be tied to Ground.  That's not so bad, since all that means is that you have to find a way to connect those pins to the ground plane.  As ShinyFalcon said, a small piece of wire soldered to a scratched section of the ground plane (to expose the copper underneath) will work.

As a matter of fact, the adjacent pins are tied to Ground as well.  So for the bottom row, if you bridged the leftmost pin with the next pin to the right ... and for the right row, if you bridged the third pin from bottom with the next pin down, you should be OK.

To correct tomb, on the right side, the third pin from the bottom is tied to the second pin to the bottom and not to ground.  Bridge the two with a blob of solder.

The leftmost pin on the bottom is tied to ground so you can bridge it with the pin beside it (which is also tied to ground)

Thanks for that correction!smily_headphones1.gif

Hahaaha thanks guys!

That's relieving.  I'll tell you guys how it goes after I buy some replacement resistors and stuff.

I think the plastic at the bottom left pin melted, so the pin opening in sealed up.  will it still work?
