legal downloads is my most often used way to get music, Vinyl purchases are a close second and CD's (usually used) come in third.

Interesting.   My order would be CD, Digital, then Vinyl.  I resort to Vinyl for the very hard to find stuff.  CD is my dominant medium because I really like displaying my music on my shelves.  It's hard to do that with Digital. wink.gif

I make my own digital rips from CDs, LPs and 78s.

Vinyl, then CDs.

Almost strictly digital downloads. Only one reason: ease.

CD. If the album in question is really really loud and compressed, I'll get it on vinyl. Digital comes in third. I despise digital music.

Usage-wise, it's hard to say these days…they're all pretty equally utilized. Vinyl is the one that gives me most pleasure, though. Digital music bothered me less once I got acquainted with lossless files. The first time I heard an AIFF file of something I'd had on mp3, I almost jumped out of my chair.

I tend to like the sound of vinyl best, but I find CD most versatile, since it's not as time-consuming to rip to digital formats.  I rarely download, except from companies with something special, usually obscure jazz in high res on FLAC.

Wow. I have about 10,000 records, but I can't say that vinyl gives me pleasure. It's a pain in the ass actually. I've been collecting records since the 70s, and no format has brought me more joy than digital files. I can use iTunes to immediately cue up a song I want to hear. I can stream the music all over the house. I can sort to hear the same song by ten different singers. I can keep a year's worth of music on my desktop. That pleasure is a million times more pleasurable than finding a record in a stack of a thousand records. Cleaning the damn thing off for each and every play. And finding a crackle or pop that I didn't know I had.

I have a friend who really wants to be into vinyl, but every time he plays one I get a text or e-mail that says something like, "Boy, is it a pain to have to flip or change the record every 20 minutes." Simply put, you gotta wanna…

Easier to just capture them as you play them and never have to bother with fumbling with that particular record again.

CD is THE format for me....and I don't see myself changing in the foreseeable future.  Besides the music, I am a CD collector and enjoy that aspect of the format.  I just don't have a interest in downloads.
