Here is some of my favorite artists:

John Mayer - His live stuff, different then his studio

Muse

Rage Against the Machine

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Audioslave

I have a mean addiction to guitars, and guitarist

I like clear and loud vocals with great lyrics

I reckon the Audio Technica M50s would suit ur needs. They get recommended a lot around here and i happen to have a pair so i can tell u they are good at most genres. However the Grados SR80is have better synergy with rock music. so u might want to look at both of them IF ur budget is around 100 and u want closed cans. I'll just link u this wiki which will basically tells u the best headphones in lots of price ranges and their sound signature. and it includes IEMs too if u want portability.
