My Clip+ is on its way out plus it has become the next link in the chain to get upgraded. I am going to be using a Stepdance and I'm wondering if the Ipod/LOD is the way to go. Would I get better sound than using an S9, J3, Sflo2, HM601, etc.

 

My headphone collection is now DBA-02's, HD 595's, and HJE900's. Im sure I will own 1964 Quads soon.

 

If the Ipod is the best option, is there one I should lean towards as far as sound quality.

 

ie: classic 30gb generation 5 (not even sure if there is such a thing, but you know what I'm saying)

 

Also, if the ipod/LOD is your favorite option, where to get a good LOD under $50. I'm not much of a "$200 cable sounds better" guy.
