What brilliantly recorded albums should I test my new cans out on when they arrive?

So I bought some AKG K701's from Vitok33 and a Little Dot MKII Amp.

When they arrive I'm going to lock myself in my room until my ears bleed from over-use.

The questions is... what fine recordings shall I start with?


I've started making a list (In no great order) but I'd appreciate any other suggestions.


My list list so far:

Cat Power - The Greatest
Fever Ray - Fever Ray
Tool - Lateralus
Pink Floyd - Darks Side Of The Moon (SACD)
Sun Kil Moon - Admiral Fell Promises

Tool - Lateralus. Awesome album try your new headphones with this album and be prepared to be awed.

See number 3 on my list - Would have been number 1 if the list was in order.

 

Believe me, I have been obsessed with Tool's recordings for many, many years ;)

Are you looking forward to their new release coming up?!

 

I've never heard any BT, but dorm wifi is being a bit cantankerous right now, so I'll have to take a listen later. Thanks for the heads-up :)

TBH I haven't really heard much about it other than Gavin Harrison's back on the bangers, but yes I am looking forward to it smily_headphones1.gif
BT is bloody fantastic, but I must warn you he has some pretty awful thumping albums too, The album 'This Binary Universe' is a 5-star jaw-dropper.

Since you have the one Pink Floyd album on there I'd have to recommend The Final Cut as well. I second GYBE too--extremely dynamic recordings. Also, staying on the post-rock stuff, sigur ros's recordings are fairly well mastered.

Yes I have TFC on SACD there too, such an underrated album.
Mogwai should be fun too. :/

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (SACD if you so wish).

 

Worth it just for the eponymous track.
