Curiosity has gotten the best of me.

As my thread title states my curiosity has piqued. normal_smile%20.gif So my question is fairly basic. How many albums do some of you guys own? I mean like who has the biggest album collection? Be it LP's, EP's, CD's, Cassettes etc...

Approaching 200, so lots of room to grow! beyersmile.png

What is it mostly based on media wise?

CD's.  I haven't gotten into downloads much, and would like to get into vinyl eventually, but that's a whole 'nother thing....

Hmmm....

Haven't really counted yet; I'm kind of afraid to find out.  I am estimating about 1,500 albums, mostly on CD.  No downloads for me.

Awesome! How do you organize a collection like that?

I've starting to convert my CDs to digital audio files the past year and am up to 75,000 songs in my iTunes library so far including albums I've downloaded. Not including LPs or cassettes, I'd say I'm about half done, lol ;p

Maybe you've all seen this but I thought this: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/518613/my-music-server#post_7004002 was pretty cool!

I have about 250 albums on CD, so a pretty modest collection. It's constantly growing, though :)

WOW! I thought I had a big collection but it's nothing compared to this guy's. I have 2,538 that's all digital as the first thing I do is rip my CD's as soon as I buy 'em and store 'em away. But 12,000 is huge.

Here is A little more than half of my record collection. If I set all my stacks end to end, they would go for almost 100 feet.

I have a media server with 18TB, a year's worth of music in six itunes libraries, over 10,000 CDs and a wall full of DVDs too. The numbers got hard to estimate a few years ago. All I know is I'm fixed for life with music.

O...M...F...G eek.gif That is both beautiful, as it is inspiring!  By a year's worth of music, do you mean played back to back continuously? And how are they organized? Genre? Name? Year? (ok, I just thought of High Fidelity.....life event? lol)

The media server has separate libraries by genre... Jazz, Classical, Country Western, Rhythm and Blues, etc... plus one "best of" library that plays 24/7 and streams through the house by wifi. There is a bit of duplication in the libraries. It's hard to avoid it, but if I add up the times of all the libraries it comes out to over a year. I have more digital files in back up, but I ran out of steam working on the server, so it's staying there for now.

The record wall is in disarray right now and may never get back to an organized state. It was all on order by genre and artist when I kept it in a storage warehouse. But when I moved into my new house, it was enough to just ask my friends to move all of it. If I had asked them to keep it in order they would have killed me. It's sorted by media at least... LPs, 12 inch 78s, and 10 inch 78s.

I just got my screening/listening room finished and I open it up twice a month to the members of the non profit organization I work for. We watch movies and listen to music. I have a really nice toy wall too, but I have collector friends with toy collections that make mine look like nothing.

I come from a family of collectors and my friends are all collectors, musicians and artists. My job is pretty predictable. I'm the director of a non profit archive. I know a couple of weird collectors, but I tend to not get along with them too well. I'm a practical soul and I like to see my collection be useful to others, not just me.
