Foobar Library Search Problem

Thread Starter

Hi folks,

Just started using foobar and am experiencing the same problem as this chap...

http://www.overclock.net/other-software/727620-foobar2000-filter-search-problem.html

The search function seems to permanently filter my library, so I have to add all of the files to the library again to get them to show up.

Saying that I can still find any file I want as long as I am still in the media library search box.

Any help much appreciated.

Which search function media library search, playlist search or what? Generally foobar search feature should not do that, the chap you linked to seem to have problem with Column UI, are you using the Filter panel as him then?

I am just using the default user interface as I am just getting started with foobar. The search feature I am using is pressing the library tab at the top, then search, which pops up with an little additional window. Perhaps installing columns UI would help?

Have you enabled 'Library Viewer Selection Playlist' in the preferences menu?

No you don't need column UI, using it is more complicated than the Default UI.

That media library search box is intended to be empty with an empty search string and only shows entries that match your search string, so I see nothing wrong with your config. If you wanna see everything in your library use Album List instead (access at the same menu as library search), if you don't have it reinstall foobar and customize your installation.

Also as a bonus this is one way to create autoplaylist (called smart playlist else where) in foobar: Open album list select the branch you want to create autoplaylist->right click->create autoplaylist. If you have further question, just ask.

Ahh that helps a little, I see it creates another playlist that only displays the tracks that fit the search.

I have done this and have created a playlist of all my music which doesn't disappear!

Have to say though that it doesn't seem to be the most elegant solution and I struggle to believe that this is how you two have your foobar set up - can columns UI add a permanent search box similar to the one in iTunes?

No CUI does not has it by default, use es_playlist for that it has an integrated search box that fits what you described. In case, you don't know how to set up a decent interface I released my config here http://www.mediafire.com/?c7td9icjuy2rw (get the big theme or small theme depends on what you like). Discussions is at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=84592 . Enable/disable the search box with F3, activate an already enabled search box with F6. Learning foobar might seems steep with weird "doctrine" at first, but when you have been "brainwashed", everything about it make sense and you have "your" player.

A screenshot of your foobar might help us understand how you have it set up at the moment.

Most of the times I use the search I just use the filter at the bottom of the album list view, the Library/Search view is set as a tab which I hardly ever use behind it.

Marcus,

Would you be able to tell me how you got this extra column on the left hand side? I like the look of your set up. There doesn't seem to be a beginner's guide on the net any more - the frequently linked "newbie guide" is a dead link these days.

thuantran,

Thanks very much for your input but I feel you are quite a bit more advanced than I am in foobar - I will have to work up to where you currently are!

I think I put off too much information in my previous post, sorry about that. Going back to square one I would recommend you using foobar Layout quick setup feature. Here's how to trigger it: View menu->Quick Setup and select the setup you like, a similar one as Marcus is there. Very quick and easy, then you can learn to tinker more from there.

A set-up like mine is quite easy to set up actually, in the quick setup I selected Album list + Properties (tabbed) + visualisations. If you want  to create another tab (like the properties/search tabs i've put behind the library list, enable layout editing mode (view/layout) then right click on the section and click "add new tab". Colours are in the preferences menu and album art works the same way as many other programs.

Thanks to you both. Am now looking forward to playing around with foobar now - looking at it as more of a working progress than anything else.
