just bought a pair of 7506s and i've heard people mentioning breaking in their headphones. i tried searching the archives, but even with quotes around "break in" i was still getting the phone book, and none of them seemed to offer anything more than "when did you break your ____s?" or "i was in the park", etc... : P

so yeah, can anyone help me out? thanks much-

should have searched for "burn in"

You can:

1. Simply listen to them and watch as they start to sound better over time, or
2. Turn on a radio to a staticy channel, or to to radio or your favorite CD, and then let it run for a 48 hours at a volume slightly louder than you listen at.

hm, but is it bad to use my headphones before i break em in?

no way. Use them! But know that they'll sound better (although apparently different headphones break-in to a different extent). Do a search for "burn" or "burn in" and you'll find out all you need to know.

Did you not also see that some people discount such claims?

Why do you believe this?

You'll note there is nothing in the Sony instructions about this so-called 'break-in'.

The NCH Tone Generator is an excellent program in which you can create your own frequency sweeps and/or run pink and white noise tests. Great program, might be what you need.
